Since 1990, daytime running lights have been mandatory on all cars in Canada. Due to the long winter season we have here, this feature comes in handy for those long dark and gloomy fall and winter days. Daytime running lights can help prevent accidents as the lights on your vehicle turns on automatically regardless at anytime of the day. This however does not mean you do not have turn on your headlights at night as the daytime running lights in your within the headlight lens is significantly dimmer than those of the actual light emitted from your headlamp bulbs; and in some vehicles the light from tailamp does not turn on as well. Of course there are still many vehicles on the road that does not have this safety feature, so if your car do fall into that category it is best during the dark gloomy days to have your lights turned on so that you can see the road better and for others to see you as well! Furthermore, regardless if you do have daytime running lights or not on your vehicle, it is best to have your lights on even during cloudy and rainy days during the day for the safety of yourself, your passengers and others.
